Using an Ice Bath
The iceZ Ice Bath
What ages can use an ice bath? Are there any restrictions?
There’s no restriction as long as you’re healthy.
Children must be accompanied by a parent right beside them and limited to up to one minute in the bath.
And of course, never force a child into the bath in any way.
Isn't an ice bath dangerous for the body?
There is no risk of hypothermia with a short exposure of up to 5 minutes. Of course, there’s no need to “push” your body beyond what it can handle.
It’s important to pay attention to the right temperature for you, as detailed in the product’s instructions for use.
An ice bath is not suitable for people with high blood pressure or heart problems (especially people taking beta blockers).
Do I need a doctor's approval?
People with various medical conditions are advised to consult their doctor before getting into an ice bath.
Why would anyone "do this to themselves"?
Many studies have shown the positive effects of ice baths:
- Reduced inflammation
- Faster recovery from injuries
- A stronger immune system
- Building cold tolerance
The ice bath is also used as mental training. You stay in the bath through temporary discomfort, a place of pain, and learn how to cope with that pain.
Training with cold helps build resilience that supports us in life’s challenges.
The pain is real, but “suffering” is our choice!
Do I need training before using it?
We recommend getting guidance from a certified instructor so you know how to practice in the best possible way.
You can read more in our article on how to take an ice bath.
When is the right time to use the bath? Before or after a workout?
We’ve dedicated an entire article to this question. You can read about it in the article Ice Baths for Athletes.
Without a chiller, how do I know how much ice to add?
Our dear friend Ofir created a very useful tool. https://nofear.co.il/ice-bath-calculator/
Keep in mind:
- Outside temperature: on a hot day the water warms up quickly, so you’ll need more ice.
- Number of people dipping in a row: each person raises the temperature by about half a degree.
- Insulation: an insulated bath will keep the temperature lower for longer.
- Crushed ice or blocks: crushed ice cools faster but also melts faster, while block ice lasts longer.
Do I need to change the water after every use?
No. There’s a filtration system, as well as instructions for disinfecting the water.
How often you change it really depends on the number of dips, or alternatively, on how much time has passed.
It’s best to change the water after 4-12 weeks, or when it looks cloudy.
Filter replacement also depends on the number of dips and the hygiene of the people using it. The filter cleans out deeper dirt, oils and so on. If there are dozens of dips a week, replace it every month; if fewer, every two to three months, depending on the filter’s condition and color.
How long does it take to cool the bath down to its minimum temperature?
In summer, when the water temperature is 25 degrees, it takes about two hours to reach 8 degrees and about another half hour to reach 3 degrees.
Does the chiller keep the water cold when several people dip one after another?
Each person who gets into a tank of about 200 liters raises the temperature by about half a degree. Our powerful chiller can handle the load of several people dipping and brings the temperature back down within just a few minutes.
Do I need to cover the chiller in winter?
The chiller is water-protected to the ipx4 standard and suitable for outdoor use.
Even so, we recommend keeping it under a roof and covering it if it won’t be used for an extended period.
When the chiller is covered, turn off the power switch and unplug it.
What's the difference between the ice baths sold on the market and iceZ ice baths?
There are many differences, reflected in the materials and in the quality of the bath itself.
One of the most significant differences between iceZ ice baths and the various baths on the market is the chiller.
Its thermostat is effectively the “brain” of the bath, and it allows:
Remote control: with iceZ ice baths you can schedule it to turn on while you’re still on your way home from work, and arrive to an ice bath that’s ready.
Setting the temperature to suit your preferences, your stage of practice, or different users.
Two filters and a circulation system keep the water clean, so the water in iceZ ice baths hardly ever needs to be changed.
Which is better: an inflatable, acrylic or wood-clad ice bath?
The answer depends on your lifestyle.
If it’s important to you that the bath can “go with you” anywhere, even on vacation, an inflatable ice bath is the answer.
If you want a home ice bath with a design that blends into your garden or wooden deck, and you don’t expect to move it regularly, then a wooden ice bath may be the right fit.
Either way, you get a quality ice bath and a chiller from iceZ.
In any case, it’s definitely a good idea to consult with us.
Is it also suitable for a balcony or rooftop in an apartment building?
Of course. A full bath plus a heavy person is calculated at 300 kg at most, and the chiller weighs 35 kg, so it’s safe to calculate a weight of 350 kg over an area of 2m * 1m.
Consult with us about your balcony.
Is there a warranty, and what does it cover?
We offer a one-year warranty on both the chiller and the bath, as well as their peripheral equipment, covering manufacturing defects and other issues related to normal use of the product.
